"Nocturnal Animals" is a series of three bas-reliefs paper frames of 100 x 70 cm a flock of 60 paper pieces of various sizes, all made of paper.
The project emerged from a reflection on our relationship with night and darkness, an exploration of a dreamlike realm and of the images that surface when we close our eyes. It gives form to unfamiliar shapes: fish without eyes or mouths, creatures that feel strange, slightly unsettling, yet intriguing and quietly beautiful.
These sculptures invite the viewer into an imaginary world where darkness becomes a space of contemplation rather than fear.
First developed in 2023, the series evolved into a various number of paper pieces such as hedgehogs, flowers, insects and "bas-reliefs" frames. Some of the sculptures were exhibited at the Belgian Embassy in Tokyo and at the Belgian Pavilion during World Expo Osaka 2025.
